My First Encounter with Jewelry Photography
I used to be recently asked with a client who owns a neighborhood jewelry store for taking some photos of his jewelry so he could post on his site, and in addition try to sell on eBay. I had built his site for him (my primary occupation is webdesign, however i do dabble in photography a tad too) and so i have performed product photography in the past, but never in jewelry. I had heard it’s as difficult to photograph jewelry since it is kids and animals, but I’ve always been one for the challenge and hate being beaten, and so i made a decision to accept the work and determine the others when i went along.
Before I visited his store, I needless to say charged my battery within its More Information thus i was good to go. My first trial using what I had had been a freebie to him to discover approaches to perform work, and also to establish the best placed in their own store. He allow me to make use of a room that looked like something out of The Godfather to accept photos. Therefore I brought my equipment along, my lighting equipment, tripod, camera, Nikon EN-EL23 charger, spare battery, along with a white backdrop to attempt to get a consistent image. This is my first mistake. I set my equipment up, camera on tripod, lighting stands, as well as the ring in the white backdrop. My lighting wasn’t suitable for a start and whatever way I moved it, made little difference. I tried all kinds of angles as well as took out my backdrop to locate a more unique strategy for presenting the jewelry. Frustration was setting in fast. The white background and the white gold in the rings was so that it is very difficult to get a full result. After a few hours trying, I chose a few things i was doing wasn’t working. I had been not satisfied with all the results.
I made the decision to bring along up and do some more research and will come back at another time. Thinking about it deeper, one thing I needed was a dedicated lighting tent. These were available cheaper than $100, I purchased one, it was actually 17″ x 17″ x 17″ so a great size for doing more than just jewelry. It had LED lighting stitched in, and a selection of four backdrop colors, black, white, gray along with a light blue. I purchased the tent, as soon as arrived set it up up, and took some shots of my wife’s jewelry. What 86dexmpky difference. Although my wife’s jewelry didn’t sparkle as brand-new jewelry, the outcome were very encouraging. I needed excellent lighting, and even more importantly, it absolutely was consistent. I immediately contacted my client and arranged another visit to try the tent out and to see the results. Again, it was actually a freebie because i was determined to get this right for him before you go full force into photographing his entire stock. The final results were far better, I managed to have that consistent look along with the lighting was great, but there is still more being done. You will discover what else I did in this article to produce for more professional looking photos.
